FIRST TIME WAX

Questions
Everyone Asks

The questions everyone Googles at 11PM before their first appointment. We've heard them all, and here are the answers:

How much does it actually hurt?

Honestly? Less than you've built it up to in your head. Most first-timers say the anticipation was the worst part. The actual wax takes about 15 minutes — and the most intense seconds are over before you can finish a deep breath.

For perspective: most clients rate the pain a 4-5/10 on the first visit, and a 2-3/10 by the third. Your nerves adjust.

How long does my hair need to be?

About ¼ inch — roughly two weeks of growth from your last shave. Long enough for the wax to grip, short enough that we don't have to trim. If you're not sure, don't shave for at least 10 days before your appointment.

If it's longer than ½ inch, we'll trim it down before waxing. No charge, no judgment.

Should I shave between appointments?

Please don't. Shaving resets your hair growth cycle and makes the next wax hurt more. Wait it out — even when it feels itchy or weird around week one. Trust us, week three is worth it.

What do I wear to my appointment?

Whatever you walked in with. You'll undress from the waist down (or whatever area is being waxed) in a private room. Wear comfortable underwear you don't mind taking off — and skip tight jeans or shapewear for the day.

Will my esthetician judge me?

No. We've waxed thousands of clients across 16 years. There is nothing about your body, your hair, your timing, or your decisions that we haven't seen. We genuinely don't care if you "forgot to exfoliate" or "haven't waxed in a year." We're here to do the service. That's it.

Can I get a Brazilian while on my period?

Yes. Just wear a fresh tampon or menstrual cup to your appointment. Some people are slightly more sensitive during their cycle, so if you can schedule outside of week one, you might prefer it — but it's not a dealbreaker. Let us know if you'd rather reschedule, no problem.

What if I get aroused or sweaty or… something else?

Your body might react to touch. That's biology, not weirdness. We're professionals — we don't notice it, we don't comment on it, and we don't make it awkward. Promise.

Should I take ibuprofen before my appointment?

You can. Taking 400-600mg of ibuprofen 30-45 minutes before your wax can take the edge off, especially for first-timers. Avoid alcohol or caffeine — it actually makes you more sensitive, not less.

What about sex after a Brazilian wax?

24-48 hours of rest. Your skin needs time to settle. Sex too soon can mean inflammation, irritation, or worse — folliculitis (annoying little red bumps). Patience now = smoother experience later, in every sense.

Will the hair grow back thicker?

No — that's a myth.

Waxing actually makes hair grow back finer over timebecause it pulls from the root and weakens the follicle. After 6-12 months of consistent waxing, many clients see noticeably sparser regrowth.

Do you take walk-ins?

We're appointment-only to keep service quality high and waits short. Book online through Vagaro 24/7 — same-day slots are sometimes available, but for your first visit we recommend booking at least 48 hours ahead so you have time to mentally prep (and not shave 🙃).
