Booking & Policies

How do I book a service?

All appointments are booked online through our Vagaro page. You can pick your service, choose a time, and pay or hold the appointment with a card on file. Walk-ins are not guaranteed — booking ahead is the easiest way to make sure we have a spot for you.

Can I book the same day?

Same-day appointments are sometimes available depending on the schedule. Check Vagaro for real-time availability — if you don't see what you need, message us and we'll do our best to fit you in.

Cancellation/No-Show

We require at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations within 24 hours, no-calls, and no-shows are charged 50% of the booked service. The fee must be paid before booking your next appointment.

What happens if I'm running late?

Please message us as soon as you know. We'll do our best to keep your appointment, but if you're more than 30-minutes late, we may need to reschedule so we don't run into the next client's time.

How early should I arrive?

Arrive 5–10 minutes before your appointment so you have time to check in, use the restroom, and settle in.

Where are you located?

The Wax Queen is at 9238 Valley Blvd, Rosemead, CA 91770. Street parking is available.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Cash, and Zelle. Credit cards for products and med spa services.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A $50 deposit is required for any service or combination of services totaling $100 or more.

Are there age requirements?

  • Brazilian waxing: 18 and older.
  • All other services for clients under 18: a parent or guardian must be present at the appointment to give consent.

Are tips appreciated?

Yes. Tips are not required but are always appreciated. 15–20% is standard in the industry. You can tip in cash or through Zelle or Venmo at checkout once your service has completed.

Pricing & Services

How much does a Brazilian wax cost?

We offer a variety of services. View our services menu, displaying price and duration of service.

What other waxing services do you offer, and what do they cost?

We not only offer waxing services, but also facials, skincare treatments, eyelash services, botox, fillers, and more. View our services menu.

How long does a Brazilian wax appointment take?

Most Brazilian wax appointments take 15–30 minutes, including check-in and aftercare guidance. First-time appointments may take slightly longer because we'll walk you through the process before starting.

What's the difference between a bikini wax, extended bikini, and Brazilian?

Bikini wax — removes hair outside the underwear line for a clean swimsuit edge. Hair on the front and labia stays.

Extended bikini — removes more hair than a bikini wax (further in toward the front and sides) but leaves more hair than a Brazilian. A good middle option for first-timers easing in.

Brazilian — removes all hair from front to back, including labia and between the cheeks. A small strip can be left in the front if you prefer.

Do you offer men's waxing?

Yes. Our Gentlemen's Menu covers chest, shoulders, full back, underarms, and stomach waxing — all in private treatment rooms using the same hard wax and soft wax techniques as our women's services. Most men's appointments take 15 to 20 minutes. View our services menu.

Do you double-dip?

No. We use a fresh stick for every dip into the wax pot to maintain hygiene standards. Cross-contamination is something we take seriously.

Do you use hard or soft wax?

We use both, depending on the area. Hard wax is our default for sensitive areas — bikini, Brazilian, underarms, and face — because it's gentler on delicate skin. Soft wax is used for larger areas like legs, arms, back, and chest where speed matters. We also offer a hard-wax-only Brazilian for clients with sensitive skin or a history of soft-wax reactions.

Do you offer sugar wax or strip waxing?

Strip waxing (soft wax applied with a muslin strip) is part of our standard service for larger body areas like legs, arms, and back. Sugaring — which uses an all-natural sugar paste instead of wax — is available by request as an alternative for clients with sensitive skin or soft-wax allergies. Call ahead to confirm stylist availability for sugaring.

Hair Length & Prep

How long does my hair need to be?

About a quarter-inch, or roughly the length of a grain of rice. That's typically 2–3 weeks of growth after shaving, or 4 weeks if you're between waxes. If the hair is shorter than that, the wax may not grip it properly.

Should I shave between appointments?

No. Shaving between waxes resets your hair growth cycle and undoes the progress you've built up. The longer you stick with consistent waxing only, the softer and finer your regrowth becomes over time.

Should I exfoliate before my appointment?

Gentle exfoliation 24–48 hours before your appointment helps lift any dead skin and lets the wax adhere better. Skip aggressive scrubs the day of — your skin will already be sensitive enough during the service.

Can I take pain medication before my appointment?

If you're prone to discomfort, taking an ibuprofen (Advil) 30–45 minutes before your appointment can help take the edge off. Avoid aspirin or other blood thinners — they can increase bruising and bleeding.

Should I avoid caffeine or alcohol beforehand?

Yes. Both caffeine and alcohol tighten pores and increase skin sensitivity, which can make the wax feel more intense. Try to avoid both for at least a few hours before your appointment.

Should I shower before coming in?

A quick shower beforehand is ideal — it helps with hygiene and makes you more comfortable during the service. If you can't, don't stress; we keep cleansing wipes in the room.

What To Expect

Will I be fully undressed?

For a Brazilian wax, you'll undress from the waist down. We step out while you change, and you'll be covered with a clean towel or sheet until we begin. You won't be more exposed than necessary at any point during the service.

What position will I be in during a Brazilian?

Most of the wax is done with you lying on your back with your knees bent. For the back/buttock portion, you'll roll to one side. Your wax specialist will tell you exactly what to do — there's nothing to figure out on your own.

What if I get nervous or need to stop?

Tell us. We can pause, slow down, or stop at any point. Many clients are nervous, especially the first time — we're used to it, and we'd rather take a moment than push through if you're not okay.

Can I bring my phone or use headphones during the appointment?

Yes. Some clients like to put in headphones or scroll through their phone to take their mind off the service — that's completely fine. Just keep one hand free in case you need to brace.

Should I be worried about being clean enough?

No. We've seen it all and nothing surprises us. A quick shower beforehand is nice if you can, but if you came straight from work or the gym, we have wipes in the room. Your body is normal — we don't think anything about it.

Aftercare

What should I avoid for the first 24–48 hours after waxing?

  • Hot showers, baths, saunas, or hot tubs
  • Direct sun exposure and tanning beds
  • Swimming pools and the ocean
  • Heavy workouts (anything that causes friction or sweat in the area)
  • Tight clothing — go loose for the rest of the day
  • Sexual activity
  • Exfoliating scrubs or chemical exfoliants

Your skin is most vulnerable right after waxing. Giving it a day or two to calm down protects your results and reduces irritation.

When can I start exfoliating again?

About 48–72 hours after your appointment, gently. Regular exfoliation (2–3 times a week) is one of the best things you can do to prevent ingrown hairs between appointments.

What products do you recommend for aftercare?

Yes. Minor bumps and redness are completely normal for a few hours and sometimes up to a day after waxing — it's your skin reacting to having hair removed at the root. If bumps last longer than 48 hours, get larger, or feel like ingrown hairs forming, follow up with proper exfoliation and an ingrown hair treatment. Reach out if you're not sure.

When should I rebook?

For maintenance, most clients rebook every 4–6 weeks. Booking on a consistent cycle gives you the best results — softer regrowth, fewer ingrowns, and shorter appointments over time. If you wait longer than 6 weeks between Brazilians, your hair growth cycle resets and the next appointment may feel more like a first-time wax.

Other General Questions

Does a Brazilian wax hurt?

Some discomfort is normal, especially if it is your first time. The good news is that the appointment is usually quick, and an experienced wax specialist can make the process feel much more manageable. Many clients say the anticipation is worse than the actual wax.

Is a Brazilian wax awkward?

It can feel intimidating before your first appointment, but our goal is to make the experience feel normal. We keep the appointment private, professional, and judgment-free so you do not feel embarrassed asking questions.

How long does a Brazilian wax last?

Most clients stay smoother for several weeks. Your exact results depend on your hair growth cycle, consistency, and aftercare routine. Many maintenance clients rebook every four to six weeks.

How should I prepare for my first Brazilian wax?

Let the hair grow long enough for the wax to grip. Avoid shaving right before your appointment. Wear comfortable clothing and avoid heavy exfoliation, tanning, or irritating products before your wax.

Can I get waxed if I have ingrown hairs?

In many cases, yes. Let your wax specialist know before your service so we can check your skin and recommend the best approach. We can also guide you on aftercare and ingrown hair prevention.

Is The Wax Queen good for first-time clients?

Yes. First-time clients are one of our main focuses. We explain what to expect, help you feel comfortable, and guide you through the appointment so it feels less intimidating.

Do you serve clients outside Rosemead?

Yes. Many clients visit The Wax Queen from Alhambra, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, Temple City, Arcadia, El Monte, and nearby Los Angeles neighborhoods.
